One of our readers points out that the boys triple jump record should belong to Kasen Williams, Skyline, 2011, 50-9 1/4.
Is the reader wrong? I believe we reported it, too.
Thanks.
Mark Akins, Seattle Times

You’re right. We missed that one. Thanks for pointing it out!
This is a great list! Is there any way you could publish an all-time top 10 list in each event? I can’t seem to find one anywhere and I’m sure it would be a big hit for WA High School track enthusiasts.
Author
We don’t publish the all time list on-line because John Sells has a very deep list in his book and there needs to be a reason to buy his book and support him! He has the top 200 performers in each event. Quite a list. The most recent 2011 book is available for $20 (includes postage). You can send for it at: Shelton Thrower’s Club, 400 SE Sells Dr, Shelton, WA 98584.
According to Athletic.net, would the following qualify for All-time Sophomore records?
1. Joe Hardy 4:09.29a 10 WA Seattle Prep Shoreline Invitational (Boys) Sat, Apr 28
1. Kai Wilmot 8:57.66a 10 WA North Central Shoreline Invitational (Boys) Sat, Apr 28
Author
Yes, it looks like they do! Thanks for pointing it out.
I believe u need to re write the record books- joe hardy ran 855 for the 3200m also Andrew Gardner ran 901 as a freshman
Joe Hardy ran 8:55 at state beating Wilmot’s record/
.Isaiah ran 21.24a at Richland, and 10.64a at Pasco on 5/11/12. Hardy broke soph 3200m at state with 8:55.22. Keller broke javelin at centennial with 244’1. Gardner actually ran 9:01.40 at State his frosh year. Temitope Akinlosotu of Federal Way broke the frosh 300mh with a 39.58a. Sorry. I’m a bit of a track nerd
Author
No reason to appologize for being a track nerd. Thanks for your input.
Author
We had actually missed a 2009 mark in the 300h that is the record, so Akinlosotu doesn’t get it. We have corrected our listing.
According to Athletic.net, the following records might need updating:
1. Sean Keller bettered his Javelin All-time State Record this year during the 48th Centennial Invitation on April 28 with a throw of 244’ 1.00
2. Marcus Chambers ran a 21.33 as a junior this year at the Narrows League Championships on May 11th
3. Tatum Taylor ran a 10.39aw as a Junior at the State Championships on May 26th
4. Isaiah Brandt-Sims ran a 10.6aw as a sophomore at the State Championships on May 26th
Isaiah and Tatum’s times show “aw” which I think means wind-aided, so that may disqualify their times in the record books.

Wind aided marks don’t count. 🙁
Chambers unbelievable today at U.S. Juniors. 21.08 (into a 1.5 headwind!) and 46.92. Finals still to come. Crazy!
Now that the olympic trials are in full swing, I’m looking around for the latest info and reminiscing about my track days. I had the pleasure of seeing, in person, a few record holders myself. I was class of 94, went to TJ in FW, and went to state in the long jump that year. My best mark was 21-10.25 but didn’t get close at state probably due in part to rain and a headwind on meet day.
I did see LaShonda Christopher at the FW invitational ( I did triple jump as well) and was amazed at her strength and athleticism. I saw Danielle Marshall in 92 also at the FW stadium and she just ran like a gazelle as I remember it. A few years later my dad and I went to the state meet to see JaWarren in person.
I also saw Rick Noji at local invitationals when I was running for Highline CC in 94-95.
My best marks in other events are 11.1 hand in 100m, 23.2 200m, and 43-2.5 TJ. Don’t get me started on war stories cause I carry the passion to this day!
I remember peller phillips jumping a 27′-1 1/2″ jump at either the Sunkist in ’88 or a meet in Indianapolis?? Am I wrong about that?? and if he did why would it not be included if it happened the summer following his senior year. He is credited as having the longest prep jump of all time. although it was wind aided shouldn’t he get credit were it is due. You show many wind-aided results in the books here??
Thanks

Yes, Fort Vancouver ran the mile relay in 1966 in 3:22.5. This would convert to 3:21.4 for the 1600 relay.
Do you keep track of the records prior to distances going into the “Meter” measurement? I know Fort Vancouver had a mile relay team that ran 3:22 in 1966.
Marcus Chambers ran 46.18 for 400m and 21.06 w(+0.6) for 200m at the USATF Junior Olympics on 7/29/2012. Both should be updated as junior class records.
Author
FINALLY updated through 2102. Sorry it took so long.
1600m record should be just that. Jerry ran a mile, in Jamaca after graduation, converted from a mile time. I still have the fastest 1600m time in the state, done at Shelton Invite 1989
Chris! We ran 2 and 3 at state in the 3200 in 88. And now my boy is gunnin’ for your 8:50 record. Fun stuff. Hope you are doing great.
Tatum Taylor broke the 100m and 200m all-time state records on May 4, 2013 at the Ken Shannon Invitational (note: running unattached as a high school senior) with times of 10.26a and 20.78a respectively

As awesome as his times were, unfortunately they were wind aided and therefore not allowable as a record.

See Joe Hardy’s time in the 3200 this year at Arcadia.
Author
We finally got Joe’s mark in the all time records. We just hadn’t updated anything from this year yet. Thanks for pointing it out, though! That was a heck of a time.
Author
Finally got it fixed. Sorry it took so long. Thanks for the heads up.

Now updated throught the 2013 state meets
Mr. Daniel Zmuda ran for Steilacoom High School Track and Field for four years and had quite the stellar hurdles career in both the 110H and the 300M. At the close of his senior year this season he ran some post season races. His last 110H race was clocked officially in 13.84 during the Track City Classic 2013 at the UofO Hayward Field, besting Mr. Nate Robinson’s time of 13.85 in 2003. Here is a link to the video posted on runnerspace:

And here is a link to the posted official results:

Thank you for considering this information as crediting Mr. Daniel Zmuda with the state of Washington all-time best 110H time. Thank you.
Daniel Zmuda ran 13.84 for 110 hurdles at the track city classic this summer.
Isaiah Brandt-Sims has the all time freshman record in the 200 meter dash at 21.29 wind-legal in the finals of the 2011 state meet final. It’s listed here at 21.43
I’m curious to know if there are any 8th grade records available. My brother was a standout long jumper and was jumping almost 20 ft at a B school (Soap Lake) but was hit by a car not much later. At the time it was a record but I’m not sure it has held up.
Author
No, sorry. We don’t have that information.
Is there any all time state records recorded for specific divisions like 2b and 1a?
Author
We have not compiled those. With schools bouncing back and forth between classifications, it would be quite a challenge.
I wonder if anyone can tell me where the boys’ state meet was held in 1960 (Lincoln Bowl?) and at what classification Ellensburg and Walla Walla High Schools would have competed? I don’t recall if they were in the “big schools” classification back then, and I’m doing some research for a book. Thanks!
Author
The 1960 boys’ state meet was held in Pullman. All schools were in the same class. In 1963 the two classification system started.
I wonder if Vince Goldsmiths shot put record will ever be surpassed. Man that guy was a beast!!!!
Trey Knight will test 70 foot by the time he is a Senior.
The freshman javelin record should belong to denham patricielli and the state triple jump record should belong to jacobe ford
Author
Thanks for the heads up. We missed Patricielli’s freshman record. Jacobe Ford’s mark was wind aided.
thank you!
The meet was held n Pullman as were most for quite a few years. My team from Hudson,s Bay won in 1961. I won mile in 1944 and 45. I was on US Olympic Team in 1948, 1500 meters
The freshman thrower from Ridgefield will break Mr. Goldsmith’s record by his senior year.
Can a State Record be made at any sanctioned meet with officials through the summer of a senior?
Sanctioned by USATF or AAU? Not sure what other sanctions it could be.
Thanks
Author
Yes, through Aug. 31 of graduating year.
